We have a lot in common, ladybugs and ourselves. We’re even genetically similar on many levels, believe it or not. Imagine what we must look like through a ladybug’s eyes, how they must see the world, what goes on in their heads.. Their thoughts are too minuscule for humans to contemplate, for it is not thinking articulately like ourselves with language, but with compulsory tiny neurotransmissions. I wonder if the ladybug knows what it’s doing as it spreads it’s wings, or if the reaction is merely a response to the messages it’s brain is sending. I wonder what learning as a ladybug must be like. If you set apart one ladybug from the rest it will still be able to take flight, so we can rule out learning by observation as means of learning to fly, but what, then, makes this tiny, almost insignificant seeming life-form aware of it’s ability to fly? What is instinct? How is there this sort of pre-programming that exists in animals? Life is strange. Nothing had to be, but here it is anyway.
